LEADERSHIP IS…
"Great leaders don’t set out to be a leader…they set out to make a difference. It’s never about the role, (but) always about the goal.” ~Lisa Haisha, therapist, motivational speaker & life coach
My sister-in-law (a leader in her field and her home) recently said to me, “It seems we’re all craving leadership these days.” That statement spurred the idea for this blog. While people today may be disillusioned, disappointed, or even disgusted with some of our elected and business leaders, I believe not all is lost. I believe there are many Leaders Among Us.
To recognize them, we first have to ask WHAT makes a leader? As I pondered this question, a list of “criteria” came to mind: A leader speaks the truth, shows kindness, has personal integrity, is trustworthy, is innovative & inspiring, shows vulnerability, is daring & courageous…I’m sure there are more.
Next, with these criteria in mind, we think of WHO the leaders are. I believe anyone can be a leader, including: business people, teachers, parents, coaches, authors, politicians (yes, even them!), consultants, researchers, medical professionals, nonprofit organizers, volunteers, friends…the list could go on and on.
“A brave leader is someone who says I see you. I hear you. I don’t have all the answers, but I’m going to keep listening and asking questions.” ~Brené Brown, professor, researcher & author
Donald H. McGannon, who ran the Westinghouse Broadcasting Corporation and served as President of the National Urban League, once said, “Leadership is action, not position.” Through this blog, I will introduce followers to leaders - from MY list, and YOURS - who may or may not have a certain title or position, but who are definitely taking action! Individuals (and perhaps some groups and organizations), who are truthful, trustworthy, kind, inspiring, courageous, and more.
Enjoy!
